Quiana Tyson
I am a well-traveled Army brat who grew up overseas until the sixth grade in both Izmir, Turkey, and SHAPE, Belgium (a military base outside of Mons). When asked where are you from? I always answer I am an Army brat, even though I went to Jr. high and high school in Fayetteville, NC, and graduated with a dual degree in Communications Studies and English from UNC – Greensboro, I never picked up the Carolina accent and North Carolina did not feel like home until I moved back in my thirties and met my husband. Between college and relocating back to North Carolina, I worked at the happiest place on earth, Disney World, after graduating college. All in all, incorporating my four times as a college intern and as a full-time cast member, I spent ten years finding my path. My first role was as a Culinary Assistant. My final role was as a Coordinator/Event Planner for the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival. I have worked for Duke for fifteen years, in the areas of Contract Management, Development, and Event Planning; I currently serve as the Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Programs and initiatives for the Pratt School of Engineering. I have friends from all over the world due to my background. My husband and I love to travel, especially on cruises or extended road trips to hit as many spots as possible. I also love to cook, read and watch films.
